Hi {FIRSTNAME} and welcome to today's issue of Keeping in Touch.
A big, warm 'hello' to all our new subscribers.
Are you making a good impression? Do your customers know they
can count on what you say?
Your good reputation is hard to win and so easy to lose. Once
you've lost your standing as an individual who can be trusted,
you aren't likely to gain back what you have lost. This is
especially true on the Internet.
Don't be in a rush. Think through each aspect of your Internet
business. Your website is a reflection of you and how you
conduct your business. Our Feature Article today, You're
Image Is At Steak - Professionalism Can Make Or Brake Sells,
by Cathy Kessler, shows how easily you can make a mistake
without even realizing it. This takes away from your
credibility. Be thorough and take time to read over everything
you submit for publication.
John Colanzi presents our Special Feature in Johnny Appleseed
... A Lesson in Sowing and Reaping. Anything worth doing, is
worth doing well. Being consistent and persistent will always
win over a 'hit and miss' attempt at business.
You won't always know which method works best until you do
test. The important thing is to keep on writing articles,
keep testing your ad copy, make sure your website is regularly
maintained and up to date. Develop a rhythm -- a natural flow
-- that works for you.
I've been working very closely with a couple of business
associates who I admire greatly, on a project we are very
excited about. As soon as we're ready, we'll tell you more
and get you excited too!
Have a great day {FIRSTNAME} and keep on smiling.

You're Image Is At Steak - Professionalism Can Make Or Brake
Sells
by Cathy Kessler © 2002
http://www.kesslerva.com
It is so discouraging. You visit a very professional-looking
Web site that seems to have everything you could want. The
navigation is simple, the design is beautiful, and there is
contact information with a real street address! What more could
you ask for?
But as you begin to read through the copy, you see repeated
sentences that look like the title of this article! You find
typo after typo: misspellings, words used in the wrong context,
and very obvious grammatical errors. All of a sudden, your
image of this company begins to wane, and you wonder if you
should give your business to an organization that appears to
have such little attention to detail.
Questions float through your mind. Will this company give me
the same lacking attention to detail that they gave their site?
Will their service be as unprofessional as their sales copy?
Hmmm, makes you stop and think, doesn't it?
The image you set forth with your site goes a long way. Having
misspellings or typos in your copy (or your ebooks, reports, or
other documents) does not simply state that you can't spell. It
puts forth a message that you don't care. It damages your image
tremendously.
There are many reasons mistakes happen. The two most common are:
>>> being so familiar with the text that you read what it is
supposed to say and not what it actually does say, and
>>> getting in too big of a hurry to get the text from your
word processing program to your Web design program or
ebook.
Both will have a negative impact on your image and your sales.
So what do you do about it? There are several things that can
help prevent mistakes in type. Focus on these tips the next
time you write, and I'm sure you will see an overwhelming
improvement in the quality of your text.
1. Write one day - read the next. When you write something
new, allow it to "simmer" for a while. Give your eyes a break.
Set it aside and don't look at it for 24 hours. When you come
back to the piece "fresh," you will no doubt spot many errors
that you would have otherwise overlooked.
2. Print it. Reading from a lighted surface (your computer
monitor) causes a great deal of eyestrain. Print your piece out
on paper and proofread it. You will have a much easier time
seeing the words.
3. Read one word at a time. We often have a tendency to read
whole sentences. However, when you proofread, you should make a
point to read each individual word. Oftentimes, using your
finger to underline each word as you read helps call your
attention to mistakes.
4. Hire a pro. If you are short on time or simply don't have a
knack for the English language, hire a professional to help you.
It will be worth the money to ensure your site visitors or ebook
readers aren't turned off by what appears to be carelessness.
Producing written works full of mistakes sheds a bad light on
your business. However, giving your text the same regard you
give design elements can greatly increase consumer confidence and sales.

Johnny Appleseed ... A Lesson In Sowing And Reaping
by John Colanzi
Remember the story of Johnny Appleseed? Good old
Johnny would travel from place to place sowing apple
seeds.
As soon as he planted seeds in one place he'd move on
and begin again.
Ezine writing is a lot like that. The seeds are our
articles and we reap traffic, new subscribers and
sales.
So what lessons can we learn from Johnny Appleseed?
1. Don't expect immediate results.
Imagine if Johnny sat and waited for each of his seeds
to take root. He wouldn't have covered much ground.
Keep sending out your articles, don't wait for
individual results.
2. Don't try to determine ahead of times which articles
will get a good response.
When planting apple seeds John knew some would take root
and others wouldn't. He didn't know which ones to plant.
He planted them all.
3. Think long term.
An article that may not have done well when you first
released it, may end up in an ecourse or ebook, months
later.
4. Know that you will get results if you're persistent.
Keep sowing.
Know that over the long haul you'll reap the rewards.
My uncle used to liken it to pasta throwing.
If you took hands full of pasta and started throwing it
against the wall, some of it will stick.
So keep sowing, keep throwing and start reaping.
Your seeds will bear fruit.
Wishing You Success.

Geek Speak Busters .... "Applet" and "Flyout Window"
=============================================
Geek-Speak Busters:
1. "Applet"
Someone just asked for an explanation of this term. What it
means is "little program". Not a big program, like Microsoft
Word, Works, or Windows. But a little program like Notepad.
Or the sound recorder. Or any of the programs in your
System Tools folder. (Start, Programs, Accessories, System
Tools.)
2. "Flyout Window"
This is a silly term for a window that can fly, but only in
the outward direction. No windows can fly inward. If you have
a window that does, please see me in the office. I have a few
questions to ask you. ;-)
Seriously, a flyout window is that list of programs all arranged
on the gray or other color background you see when you
cursor over the Programs item on the Start Menu. The list
"flies out" to the right. Thus, "flyout window".
Compliments of The Newbie Club.
