Our U.S. friends put 'taxes' behind them yesterday. I'll bet
there are a few sighs of relief getting that put behind you
for another year. In Canada we still have two more weeks
before we have to file. I cheated and sent it all to my
accountant.
I came across a program that is supposed to put the nightmares
of tax preparation to rest. It's also geared to those of us

If nothing else, you can sign up as an affiliate and offer it
to others.
How many of you have signed up as an affiliate for a program
or service and then just forget about it? Affiliate programs
can generate a fairly lucrative income if you are promoting
them with any regularity.
There are so many good affiliate programs that offer a decent
payout for each sale you make. Many offer a second or third
tier payout as well.
Our first Feature Article is by David McKenzie and he presents
a different spin on affiliate programs in The Truth About
Affiliate Commissions. The Simple Difference by Steve Goodier
will make you think a little about what 'the good life is'.

Symantec has upgraded the W32.Mylife.J@mm to a Category 3 due
to the number of submissions. You should watch for a Subject
line that reads 'sexyy Screen Saver' and it comes with an
attachment called 'USA.scr'. Delete the message. All
definitions from April 12th will catch this worm.
If you aren't protected yet, you can use Symantec's Security
Check.

The following information was passed on to me by one of our
subscribers and it's well worth the read. Please use caution
next time you use the microwave. Thanks for sharing Gary, I
never thought about this happening.
Heating Water in the Microwave
I was very glad to get this email from a friend, because I have
been guilty of heating water in a microwave many times. You'll
be glad you read it. I also suggest passing it along to friends
and family.
About five days ago, my 26-year-old son decided to have a cup of
instant coffee. He took a cup of water and put it in the
microwave to heat it up (something that he had done numerous
times before). I am not sure how long he set the timer for but
he told me he wanted to bring the water to a boil.
When the timer shut the oven off, he removed the cup from the
oven. As he looked into the cup he noted that the water was not
boiling. Then instantly the water in the cup "blew up" into his
face.
The cup remained intact until he threw it out of his hand but
all the water had flown out into his face due to the buildup
of energy. His whole face is blistered and he has 1st and 2nd
degree burns to his face, which may leave scarring. He may also
have lost partial sight in his left eye.
While at the hospital, the doctor who was attending to him
stated that this is a fairly common occurrence and water (alone)
should never be heated in a microwave oven. If water is heated
in this manner, something such as a wooden stir stick or a tea
bag should be placed in the cup to diffuse the energy.
Here is what our science teacher has to say on the matter:
"Thanks for the microwave warning. I have seen this happen
before. It is caused by a phenomenon known as super heating.
It can occur any time water is heated and will particularly
occur if the vessel that the water is heated in is new.
What happens is that the water heats faster than the vapor
bubbles can form. If the cup is very new then it is unlikely to
have small surface scratches inside it that provide a place for
the bubbles to form. As the bubbles cannot form and release
some of the heat that has built up, the liquid does not boil,
and the liquid continues to heat up well past its boiling point.
What then usually happens is that the liquid is bumped or
jarred, which is just enough of a shock to cause the bubbles to
rapidly form and expel the hot liquid. The rapid formation of
bubbles is also why a carbonated beverage spews when opened
after having been shaken.
Please pass this on to everyone you know, it could save a lot of
pain and suffering.

Yahoo Policy Modification for Submissions
If your website was indexed by Yahoo after December 28th, 2001,
you will be looking at an annual fee of $299 to stay in Yahoo's
Directory.

Automated radar through the use of cameras seems to be the 'in
thing'. I received this little chuckle from a friend of mine
and thought I'd share it with you.
A motorist was mailed a picture of his car speeding through an
automated radar. A $40 speeding ticket was included. Being cute,
he sent the police department a picture of $40. The police
responded with another mailed photo of Handcuffs.

The Truth About Affiliate Commissions

How can you boost your affiliate commissions?
Scenario: You participate in one or many affiliate programs.
You get plenty of hits. Your conversion ratio is about 2%
(which is good) and yet you're only making $42.80 per month.
It's nothing to shout about.
Consider this: If you put just as much time and effort into
marketing each affiliate program, then receiving affiliate
commissions of $5 per order is much better than receiving
affiliate commissions of $1 per order. It costs you just as
much in your own time yet you make 5 times as much.
Why join affiliate programs that sell products or services with
such low affiliate commissions? For a reasonable return you
will need extremely high volume. How about earning $65 per
sale? Or perhaps even $100 per sale?
I hear you say that it is difficult to get many sales of this
size - but even if you only got 5 sales per month from a $100
affiliate commission that would be $6,000 per year from just
one program. Compare that to the $1 commission per affiliate
program. You would have to sell 500 items per month and 6,000
per year. On a sales ratio of 2% this would mean you would have
to get 300,000 visitors per annum or 25,000 visitors per month.
That is very hard!
With the $100 product you need only 3,000 visitors per annum or
250 visitors per month.
Maybe you might not get 60 sales out of 3,000 visitors. Lets
say you still get 60 sales but out of 30,000 visitors. You
still have 1/10th of the number of visitors for the same amount
of affiliate commissions per annum of $6,000. And we all know
how difficult it can be to get traffic.
Sell products or services with higher value affiliate
commissions and you need less traffic. Now I like it when
someone tells me I need LESS traffic!

THE SIMPLE DIFFERENCE
Calvin, of the "Calvin and Hobbes" comic strip fame, once
imparted some timeless wisdom: "If people sat outside and looked
at the stars each night," he observed, "I'll bet they'd live a
lot differently."
I believe he's right. Year by bewildering year, our world grows
more complex. We crave peace within our souls. We long for
simplicity in lives that too easily become inexplicably tangled
in complicated webs.
David enjoyed the simple things of life. He sometimes took jobs
at dude ranches, national parks and seasonal resorts. His
brother, however, wanted to entice him to get a "real" job and
live in a world surrounded by things that only money can buy.
David's brother often sent him photos of himself enjoying the
so-called "good life." He labeled his snapshots "My new sound
system" or "My new car."
But the photos stopped arriving after David responded with a
picture of his own. He sent his brother a large poster with a
breathtaking view of Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park. On the
back was David's message: "My back yard."
Looking out the window of my office in my mountain home, I
understand how David feels. "The Good Life" is not defined by
possessions, but by pure and utter enjoyment of simplicity.
John Burroughs (1837-1921) put it like this: "To find the
universal elements enough; to find the air and the water
exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening
saunter...to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated
over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring -- these are some
of the rewards of the simple life."
Those who take time to find pleasure in the ordinary DO live
differently. The simple difference is this: because they have
learned to live simply, they have learned to live.
