~~~Publisher's Corner~~~
I hope everyone's week is getting off to a good start. Welcome
to our new subscribers and a very warm 'hello' to our loyal
subscribers. We're happy to have you with us.
jl scott, ph. d. is the Director of the International Council
of Online Professionals. You've undoubtedly seen the
'iCop'
logos on reputable websites all over the Internet. jl scott
tells it like it is and iCop - The Whistle Blower is an ezine
you might want to have on your list of must read
ezines. I've
included the subscribe details in 'Some of My Favorite
Ezines'
just after the Readers' Comments/Suggestions section.
Before I forget, Ian of ItsAWorld kept his promise and updated
the EZ Vote page so if you would like to cast your vote for KIT,
please use the EZ Vote section below. My sincere thank you to
those who tried to vote for KIT and were unable to due to a
conflict on Ian's page.
We'll be continuing with attitude today with Part II of Craig
Lock's article 'How to Get A Great Attitude to Life'. Our
first Feature Article is by one of my favorites, Dr. Kevin
Nunley, in 'Promote Your Business With Your Own Email Course'.
The bottom line is we are ultimately responsible for how we
feel, how we react to given situations, how we 'do' business.
If you don't like some part of that -- do something about it.
You are the only one who can. If you are uncertain about
where to begin, you might want to take a look at Being The
Solution. The steps in this book can literally transform your
life.
http://home4success.com/go/to.cgi?l=being
Until you are ready to accept that you play a major role in
your success or a lack of it, you cannot move forward. I've
heard a saying that seems to be popular in network marketing
and it goes something like this. If you keep doing the same
thing you are doing today, where will you be five years from
now? In other words, what will be different if what you have
been doing hasn't been working?
'Success ... seems to be connected with action. Successful
men keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don't quit.'
Conrad Hilton
Not knowing what direction you are headed in is also your
responsibility. Being afraid to make a mistake -- a lack of
action, is your choice. So what's it going to be? How about
'If it's gonna be -- it's up to me!'
We only have a couple more subscriber profiles to offer. If
you've been considering sending in yours, you better do it soon.
Tell us who you are, where you are from and why you are working
online. What do you like/dislike about it and what your site
or product/service is and how would it benefit others. Send it
to:
mailto:lois@home-for-success.com?Subject=Hi,_My_Name_Is
Promote Your Business With Your Own Email Course
by Kevin Nunley
http://DrNunley.com
The Internet is and always will be about learning. People log
on and surf the Web to get information. If you want to sell
something, you have to offer free information right along with
it.
Notice how many top sites on the Net not only give you things to
buy, but entice you with pages of good how-to info. Others list
their products and services along with reviews, customer
comments, surveys, and other ways for you to get an in-depth
feel for the product or service being offered.
Amazon.com pioneered this strategy and still uses it to near
perfection (just look up your favorite book and watch all the
related helpful info they put up with it). Visit a top computer
site like Apple.com and you'll see stacks of FAQs and plenty of
discussion groups related to their product.
Probably the best way to offer valued information is to have
your own email course. Your course can be three to seven or
more "lessons" (usually a short report on a continuing topic)
that is emailed to those who ask for it.
Each lesson can address a common question your customers ask.
Most people who contact me want to know about how to advertise,
how to get free PR from big media, how to make their web site
sell better, and how to advertise in ezines. Look at my free
email courses < http://drnunley.com/freecourses.htm
> and you'll
see lessons and entire courses that delve into each of those
often-asked questions.
I created a number of these email courses several years ago and
offered them from a back page of my web site. I put the course
lessons on autoresponders and promptly forgot about them. Two
years later I went back and discovered there were THOUSANDS of
people who had subscribed to these email courses.
As I looked through the addresses and names of subscribers, I
was flabbergasted. Many were the names of people who had later
become excellent customers. The courses had introduced people
to us, made them believers in our knowledge and service, then
led them to many thousands of dollars in orders.
Here's a step-by-step strategy to create and offer your own
email course:
1. Write down the seven questions people ask you most. These
can be the topics for each of your seven lessons. Granted, not
all the questions will make good topics, but you can probably
come up with a related topic that will do the job.
2. Make your lesson a one to two page report. Simply tell
someone how to do something. All you need is a page of
directions. Keep your paragraphs and sentences short. Include
short ads for your product, service, or idea. Make your email
address and phone number available for anyone who wants more
information. It's a great way to make sales.
Have someone look over your work to spot errors (yup, I have an
eagle-eyed editor who goes over all my writing and corrects dumb
mistakes and spelling errors... it's a must!)
3. Load your autoresponders up on an autoresponder system,
preferably one that has a simple HTML sign-up form you can put
on your site. I like aweber.com, but many also have good luck
with freeautobot.com. Put the subscriber's name in the subject
line for better response. Most autoresponder systems have an
automatic way for this to be done. Space your lessons one to
two days apart. If your customer base already has a ton of
reading material to look at--like teachers--send your lessons
once each week.
4. Promote your course. Put it in the signature file of all
your emails. Put the sign-up form on every page of your web
site. Then step back and forget about your course. Let it do
its job over weeks, months, even years.
Finally, if all this is too much work, know that there are firms
that will produce and distribute your course for you. Many of
my courses, including the ones I don't have listed on my site,
are available at http://7LessonCourses.com
Don't be afraid to offer other people's courses from your site.
Even though they wrote it, visitors will give you lots of credit
for bringing them good information.
"Your fears can be overcome if you deal with them properly.
Fear is an emotion. Emotions come wholly from within, and
have only the strength we allow them. As human beings, we
enjoy the possession of an intellect, and it is the
intellect, not the emotions that must be the supreme guiding
force of our lives if we are to know any measure of happiness
here. Emotions are the color of life; we would be drab
creatures indeed without them. But we must control those
emotions or they will control us. This is particularly true
of the emotion of fear, which if allowed free rein would
reduce all of us to trembling shadows of men, for whom only
death could bring release."
John M. Wilson
HOW TO GET A GREAT ATTITUDE TO LIFE (PART TWO)?
by Craig Lock
Realistically analyse your strengths and weaknesses.
As a matter of interest, people generally list more
weaknesses than strengths, especially women (nice
things those!). Too often people discount their
accomplishments and focus on what they haven't
been able to do.
Making money in itself is not success, but rather a
by-product of success. Most successful people use
the technique of visualisation to foresee ideal
outcomes. If you can foresee getting your desires
in the mind, then you can get there in the body....
at least I think so!
"As a man thinketh so is he." (the Bible)
Haven't I got that one in already?
Success or failure is not a matter of luck. The key
ingredient is a winning attitude, together with
PERSEVERANCE and common sense.
Your attitude determines your destiny:
Remember to stick at a task when things don't
go right. "When the going gets tough, the tough get
going", as my dear father used to tell me often. Did
it work though with me? All successful people have
true grit and stickability, as well as natural ability.
The winner is often the person who gets up one more
time than they are knocked down.
You will hit attitudes in others who say 'you can't
do it'. You have a choice then: a) To remain
convinced that you can do it. b) Stay with their
attitude and quit yours.
All the world's greats would never have been great
if they had listened to the opinion of even their
closest friends. Caruso, the world's greatest tenor,
was told his voice sounded like a tin can. Thomas
Edison, the inventor of motion pictures, was
advised that no-one would pay to listen to sound
coming from a screen. Edison told Henry Ford to give
up making cars and work for him instead and make
millions. Marie Curie was told to forget about
radium. Laurence Olivier was told by friends to
give up acting. Benjamin Franklin was told to stop
fiddling with lightning. People told Johnny Weismuller
(Tarzan) that no-one would ever beat his fifty
swimming records. His 1936 world record was
the qualifying time for the 1972 Olympics! Attitudes
of the time said his records could never be beaten.
Now 12 year old girls regularly beat his times.
Christopher Columbus took 14 years to raise
funding for his ships and crew before setting out
on his explorations. The science and culture of the
day had said that the world was flat. However,
Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain had
faith in Columbus. With that faith and money
behind him, Columbus took just six months to
discover the New World.
In the same way, a "flat-world mind-set" can limit
our thinking and lead to mediocrity. In the same
way that you can train fleas to jump a certain height
in a bowl, when you take away the bowl, they still
do not jump higher than the learned height.
Our mind can tie us down and limit us, so that
mediocrity becomes our destiny. Negative attitudes
get cemented in concrete.
WITH THE RIGHT ATTITUDE YOU CAN BE GREATER
THAN ANYTHING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO
YOU:
ATTITUDE BEATS FACTS EVERY TIME.
DARE TO BE DIFFERENT
* * *
Someone said, "Failure is the line of least
persistence." My dear mother called it
"stick-to-it- iv-ness." It generally boils down
to a healthy combination of faith and hard work,
and it usually means success.
"The only place where success comes before work (hard)
is in the dictionary."
A short exercise:
Talk to your best friend or partner *(I hate that
common New Zealand expression- cheapens the
institution of marriage and denotes immoral living -
Yes, sir "Mr goody goody two shoes" and "get with
the times, mate") about: * I far prefer the term
'spouse', which could be an abbreviation for "spastic
mouse". Enough about my personal opinions...
1. The picture you hold of yourself (i.e.. how you
]see yourself): Is it positive or negative, are you an
introvert, extrovert, popular?
2. How you see other people seeing you - their
perception of you, or looking glass).
Which brings to mind the following wise words
(not mine)...
"I am not what I think I am."
"I am not what you think I am."
"I am what I think you think I am."
STICK TO IT
According to William S. Banowsky, the story of
one of America's greatest leaders is actually a
story of repeated failures and dogged persistence:
In 1831 he failed in business.
In 1832 he was defeated for the state legislature.
In 1833 he failed again in business.
In 1834 he was elected to the state legislature.
In 1835 his sweetheart died.
In 1836 he had a nervous breakdown.
In 1838 he was defeated for Speaker.
In 1840 he was defeated for Elector.
In 1843 he was defeated for Congress.
In 1846 he was elected for one term to Congress.
In 1848 he was defeated again for Congress.
In 1855 he was defeated for the Senate.
In 1856 he was defeated for Vice President.
In 1858 he was defeated again for the Senate.
In 1860 he, finally, was elected President of the
United States.And these are just a few of the rough
spots in the life of Abraham Lincoln.
Are you feeling discouraged? Perhaps you just need
to give it one more try.
From Steve Goodier's ONE MINUTE CAN CHANGE A LIFE
http://store.yahoo.com/lifesupportsystem/books.htm
Abraham Lincoln grew up in a very difficult
environment. He had less than one year of formal
schooling. He experienced defeat and failure year
after year, but is one of the great-est success
stories of all time. In spite of everything, he had
the right attitude to achieve success.
I HOPE THAT YOU DO TOO.
Craig Lock
P.S: This is one of my favourites from my "spiritual
mentor", Rev Robert Schuller from the Chrystal
Cathedral, in Garden Grove in California...
"When faced with a mountain,
I will not quit!
I will keep on striving
until I climb over,
find a pass through,
tunnel underneath
-or simply stay
and turn the mountain
into a gold mine,
with God's help! "
- Rev R.H. Schuller
As the saying goes,
when you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot
and hang on. Success comes to those who ride out the highs and lows
and stick with their dreams, never giving up.
"Dear God help me become all the person,
my dear pet thinks I am."
Have FUN travelling down the amazing journey, that is life.
Today is a gift and life a mystery, so make the most of your
individual journey.
Craig
~~~Helpful Hints~~~
"Changing Icons"
===============================================
Don't like the looks of the standard icons on your system?
Want to see if there's something else available?
Here's how to proceed.
Locate an icon for a program you've installed. This icon
should be a shortcut icon with the little curved arrow in the
lower left corner of the icon.
RIGHT click the icon. Then select Properties by clicking with
your mouse pointer.
In the Properties window that appears, if you see a tab with
the word 'Shortcut' on it, click. You'll see button toward the
bottom that says 'Change Icon'. Click that button.
The 'Change Icon' window appears. Select a new icon. Or browse
for a whole different set of icons by clicking the 'Browse"
button.
Once you've chosen the new icon, click OK. Then click OK again
to close the Properties window. Or you can Apply your changes
by clicking 'Apply' then clicking OK. Either way, the new
icon will then appear in place of the old one.
It may take a moment to appear on your screen, depending on
the time it takes for your system to know the new icon needs
to be displayed.
Some icons can be changed using this method, and some cannot.
If you click 'Properties' after RIGHT clicking an icon, and
don't see the 'Change Icon" button on the Shortcut tab ... then
you'll have to use the Registry to change the icon. But that's
another task entirely.
Compliments of The Newbie Club.
