Publisher's Corner

Hi and welcome to today's issue of KIT.

First let me say I owe you all a sincere apology. In my excitement about switching to Quikonnex for publishing KIT, I may have been unclear about why I believe it is the best alternative for both you - and me.

Have you ever been really excited about something? You might be waiting for your marks to come that will admit you into the college of your dreams or you may be waiting to know whether you qualified for a new house or car. Then when the answer you've been waiting for comes - oh wow - now you have to tell everyone.

While sharing your 'good news' with everyone, it's easy to leave out some of the important reasons why it's so important to you and the person you're talking to may not really grasp why you are so excited. I believe that happened here.

I currently have over 2,200 subscribers. Unfortunately, there are a lot of addresses that cannot be delivered to on a regular basis due to full mailboxes, while others continually bounce. Naturally, it all comes back to me. When I took a break earlier this year, part of the reason included trying to find a better way to manage my lists and I've undoubtedly deleted more than 2,000 names from my subscriber base in the last year alone.

As I began to publish the issues to my website, it took me awhile to understand that my subscribe links were being captured by the mailbots and added to illegally harvested mail lists. We learn through these experiences.

It was a major factor in the decision to rewrite my whole website. It's a much bigger job than I anticipated but everything will now be coded using cgi, java script and other resources. Instead of duplicating my efforts, I'll be put all the archived issues of KIT on the Home4Success channel for you. Then everything is put together in one place and if you are looking for something specific, just throw in a few keywords and do a search.

Being on the Internet - having an online business - means you need to be constantly aware of problems that will arise, changes taking place and knowing whether it's time you implemented them for your own particular business.

I know that time has come. In my zeal for sharing Quikonnex as a solution to problems with email delivery, I haven't shared with you why it's going to be good for you as well.

First, the biggest advantage to the subscriber is that YOU are now in control of your subscription. When you change your KIT subscription, what you will be asked to do is to download a small program called Awasu. This little program is safe and easy to use and you will receive your subscription right to your desktop through the Awasu reader.

In fact, I'll walk you through the process and you'll see it's a snap. Here's what my channel page looks like:

Home 4 Success

You'll see it's called Home4Success in the top left-hand corner. Now on the right side at the top, you will see an icon called 'Quik I Messenger'. You'll be offered several ways to contact me through this nifty little tool.

A bit further down the page you'll see Categories which includes Articles, Inspiration and KIT - among others. Just below is a button called 'Q Subscribe'. Push that button and you'll see a page 'New to channels? Watch our video'. Just hit the 'Start the video' button and you will be walked through each step. It's really simple and it's fun. More publishers are making the switch so you have a chance to be on the leading edge of this terrific technology.

The creators of Quikonnex understand the turmoil most publishers have gone through in the last year and a half and have come up with a real winner. You've probably noticed many publishers have moved to weblogs, rss and chat programs of some type simply due to the lack of interactivity with their subscribers. The great thing about Quikonnex is everything the publisher and subscribers want are incorporated into one neat little package.

If you just want to look at KIT - click on it under the Categories or take a look at everything. Another thing you will be able to do is to comment directly on a particular item listed in the Categories. Under each item on the left side you will see the Category and a place for Comments. You can share your thoughts, ideas or suggestions here.

It's all done from 'one' place. You won't have to back track in your reading to find the link for comments the publisher asked for and you won't need to find another website. Everything is contained within Quikonnex. Once you've downloaded Awasu, the reader program, you can now read at your leisure because every issue is automatically updated.

Now, why is it good for me? The biggest plus for me as a publisher is that I can stop using email to deliver my content. I won't have to worry about the unsolicited garbage coming into my Inbox because my subscribe links have been abused. And I won't have to bother using any more of those crazy looking words so that I can 'trick' the filters.

My time can be spent where it counts - delivering good information to my subscribers. And no more mind-numbing list maintenance tasks that every publisher currently goes through. Using this technology makes 'sending out the next issue' a breeze because it all updates automatically. Once you are subscribed, you don't have to do anything else. Well - except read the issue, of course. :-)

This is absolutely safe. There are no spyware, adware or any type of malicious programs running in the background. You are on the cutting edge here. It was just released on the 2nd of September and you are invited to be among the first to try it out. More publishers are coming onboard every day and bringing their subscribers with them.

After you subscribe through my channel page, you can delete your subscription by email by using the link at the bottom of the email issue of KIT. My commitment to Quikonnex and the direct- to-desktop format is firm - September 30th will be the last issue you will receive by email.

Remember, this doesn't cost you a thing. You'll see more publishers taking on the new formats available to them. I haven't seen one that tops Quikonnex.

If you have any questions, feel free to use the Home4Success channel page and send me a message through Quik Messenger or use my details below.

We've spent most of today's issue to show you how to change your subscription and it would be wonderful to see you take the next step. I recently wrote an article entitled Do You Want A Bandage or a Solution? and included it as today's Feature Article. Today's email situation is not going away any time soon. If you'd like to gain even more perspective, here's the link on my channel page that will give you an even greater understanding of what we are facing.

Our Special Feature is by Dr. Bill Nieport and is called Don't Try To Be My Sugar Daddy! If the Internet is guilty of anything it has to be the propogation of the mentality that everything should be free; that you don't really need to work to succeed. Your business is not a 'fast food restaurant' where you can expect instant results. It takes a lot of hard work.

Have a great day and keep on smiling.

Do You Want A Bandage Or A Solution?
by Lois M. Jeary, September 2003

If you own and operate any type of business that uses email as your method of delivery, you should be paying close attention to the events that are unfolding as I write.

Publishers and subscribers alike are being put through their paces in order to ensure email is received and delivered. It seems that every time you turn around there is a new eliminator for unsolicited mail. Each comes with it's own set of rules for implementation. Is it effective? To a point. Most of the email you don't want arrives in your Inbox anyway while email such as ezines you've asked for are lost in cyberspace. That may sound a touch cynical, but true. Every person who uses one of these systems is responsible for 'training/teaching' it how to work. Until they understand the process, your ezine risks getting lost.

Most publishers are finding it necessary to mis-spell certain words in order to get past today's ISP and email filters. That little trick may work for awhile but it won't last. A responsible publisher should be able to keep their subscribers well informed. An important message about a current scam or con tends to lose something in the translation when it is full of these crazy looking words.

Why are we so accepting of this travesty? The problem is that we are aware email is lacking but instead of trying to fix the real problem, we've been placing 'bandages' on the process in the hopes that the problems will ultimately resolve themselves. It is NOT working.

You've undoubtedly noticed some publishers offer only a link to the latest issue on their website. Others may provide a link to their autoresponder and a website link to the latest issue. And some have been following up a day or two later to suggest that if you haven't received the latest issue, it could be the result of ISP filtering.

The real difficulty here is that these methods still rely on email to deliver that message.

Many publishers have elected to go to weblogs, rss feeds or an online chat medium just so they can communicate and interact more effectively with their group. Can you blame them? The whole purpose of publishing an ezine is to create an interactive platform for your subscribers.

While these options provide a step in the right direction, Quikonnex, released earlier this month, provides a media rich platform in their direct-to-desktop publishing service.

The creators of this service understand what publishers are up against. Using HTML, text, audio or video - you can deliver your ezine right to your subscribers' desktop using any or all of these formats. It's a simple process to convert your current subscribers to your channel subscription. And Quikonnex is backed by an excellent support system. The beauty of this process is that they have completely eliminated email delivery from the equation.

That's right. No more email. No more ISP filters, email filters, mind numbing list maintenance tasks or worries about being cited for sending unsolicted email. Quikonnex provides clean, unaltered delivery of your ezine with none of the hassles at no cost to your subscriber.

I believe the changes that are being implemented today are not a one-shot, 'give it a try' kind of deal. The changes are a solution to the email dilemma we face today. The choice is yours. Do you want to place another bandage on email or do you want a solution?

The FTC is Clamping Down

As well they should. The net is filled with scammers and schemes. Innocent people have been caught in these investigations. While not everyone was lying, they didn't take the time to protect themselves and understand the law.

In today's lawsuit crazy world, it's more important than ever to protect you and your business. If you don't have the proper disclaimers and legal documents on your website, you may not be protected. The FTC is clamping down on sloppy business owners.

AutoWebLaw provides the software that lets you prepare the right documents for your website, your products, your ezine plus several others. Fill in a few relevant buttons and voila - your legal documents are prepared for you.

Don't Try To Be My Sugar-Daddy!
by Dr. Bill Nieporte

When you marry a "southern girl" (like I did) you learn a brand new vocabulary! I just heard an interesting phrase from my "southern born" wife. Commenting on a man who left his wife for a "younger woman," Jeana said: "That woman doesn't love him! She's just looking for a 'sugar-daddy' to pay her credit card bills!"

Isn't that the approach many marketers take when looking to recruit others into their business venture? How many times a day do you get junk email from people offering (in essence) to be your "sugar-daddy?" Here's just a few examples of these offers in my email box for today:

"Guaranteed $90,246.00 in 60 Days or Less!"

"Let Me Build Your Down^line for You"

"I'll do all the work-->You keep ALL the M@ney!"

"Get 10,000 in Your Downline OverNight With Our 'System!'"

"Massive Advertising About To Begin: Join Now For Spill^over!"

Aren't you sick of it? Aren't you tired of all that *sham and scam spam* that promises unlimited riches, without work, virtually overnight?

It certainly bugs me. Here's why?

1. These offers appeal the lower-self.

The people who want to be your "sugar-daddy" try to entice you to believe that that only thing that matters is the acquisition of more wealth. For those who desire to be your "sugar-daddy" things like ethics, values, morals, and just plain good manners don't matter. What matters "mo m@ney, mo m@ney, mo m@ney!"

Don't you wish that somebody would appeal to your higher-self? Don't you wish that somebody would appeal to your desire to help, build, and create something of lasting value? Isn't wealth earned helping others much more enjoyable that simply getting rich? Aren't you one of those people who still think that ethics, values, morals, and good manners really do matter?

2. These offers also assume that you are basically lazy.

Those who want a "sugar-daddy" probably are rather lazy. You're not, are you? Check out the truly successful business builders in the world (both online and off) and you will discover that they are all hard-working and industrious individuals--and they encourage and expect that same type of effort in their partners. These men and women realize that building a successful business requires an honest and consistent effort.

3. These opportunities don't work!

Here's the final problem with the "sugar-daddy" approach to marketing. It just plain doesn't work. If you've ever been caught up in one of these ventures, you'll know that the only people who are getting any wealthier are the few scoundrels at the top who thought up the darn thing.

I don't know about you, but I am tired of those "opportunities" that don't work, aren't ethical, promote laziness, and appeal to the darker side of human life. Give me something that works. Give me something that can make a positive difference in somebody's life.

And if you join my business ventures, don't sit on you lazy rear and wait for me to do what only you can do to build your business. I will support you! I will encourage you! I will train you! I will hold you accountable to your commitments, goals, and ambitions. But I will definately not be your "Sugar-Daddy."

Don't Try To Be My Sugar-Daddy! I don't need one! You don't either, do you? You are a hard-working and industrious individual who is willing to work to succeed, right? Then here's what I invite you to do! The next time somebody offers to "build your business for you" and "make you rich," tell them that you don't need a "sugar daddy!"

Hot Tip

E-mail Groups

Do you constantly send e-mails to the same bunch of people? If you do, and if you hunt around for each address in your address book, there is a better way. Most email packages allow you to create a group in your address book and send the note to all of them with just one click.

In Outlook Express click on New and then select New Group. In the window that appears, type the name you want to call this group in the Group Name box (note: the recipients will see this name, so don't be cute). Then simply add any names from your address book by clicking the Select Members button or you can add new addresses by clicking New Contact.

Now, when you want to send group e-mails, you have one entry in your address book for your entire group. You can add or remove names as often as you wish by using the Select Members or Remove buttons, too. You can also create as many groups as you like.
