| KIT # 151: The Power Of Building A Community On The Internet |
Issue: #151 Date: September 28th, 2004![]() Hi and welcome to the anniversary issue of KIT. That's right. We've been publishing KIT on Quikonnex for a year now. So today you have the option - to read through as usual or listen to the Publisher's Corner. Your choice. I'll warn you though, I'm just getting over a cold so I may sound a bit rough today. Last spring I took a hiatus from publishing KIT. Part of it was because we had planned to sell our home. Another reason was because of the increasing bouncebacks and the horrendous amount of spam I was receiving. I truly didn't know which way to turn and gave serious thought to quitting publishing KIT altogether. I still have over 60,000 messages coming my way each week and virtually all of it is spam. Then two friends and colleagues of mine introduced me to Quikonnex. And the rest as they say, is history. Jim Gray and Carolyn Peltier created this awesome direct to desktop publishing system. Their efforts have put the publisher's needs first and they have done a first rate job. Without even trying, I'm getting first and second page rankings in the search engines by providing you with relevant and timely content. It's another reason that Ads-On-Q is taking off like gangbusters. Instead of the usual canned ad that comes from the affiliate program, people who place ads with Ads-On-Q are required to write an original article about the program or service they are promoting. And because it's new content, it is picked up by the search engines. This is a winning combination for the advertiser. I want to be your TIP - your trusted information provider. The internet is full of information but not all of it is reliable. Today's Feature Article was written by yours truly. In The Power Of Building A Community On The Internet we discuss the advantages of working within a community environment - especially one such as Quikonnex. The Lotus Totus is the Special Feature and is something Anthony Robbins provides as a good luck token. And if you haven't been taking advantage of Google and Yahoo News Alerts, you really should. You can pick any keword or phrase and they will send you the information about your choice. It's a good way to stay on top of what's happening. Have a great day and keep smiling. Lois M. Jeary, September 2004 Have you ever driven through a small country town where every home is well maintained, every lawn is cut within a day of each other - if not all on the same day, all the streets are clean - absolutely no litter, the yards present like mini 'Home and Garden'? Well that takes planning and commitment and that is the 'power of a community'. Each and every person within that community is working faithfully towards a common goal. We learned in The Value Of Building A Community On The Internet, that one of the biggest advantages of this community environment is that you can pool your efforts. That is to say if you are lousy at html coding for instance, you will probably find someone within your group who is good at it. They in turn would amenable to trade you their coding abilities for your flare for writing or perhaps graphics. Brainstorming is another big plus. Instead of having to work alone, it's easy to communicate and share ideas and suggestions when you work within a community. Now let's take that concept a step or two further. Building RelationshipsAs you meet new people online you develop a pretty good sense about who they are and what they stand for. You'll discover which ones are willing to help where they can and those who just sit back and don't do much of anything. In forums and training sessions you will gain more knowledge about these individuals. And that brings us to the exciting part. Starting PartnershipsYou will ultimately find business partners amongst the people you meet online. I've been amazed by the number of successful online business partners who have never actually met face to face. The internet presents a whole new way of doing business, doesn't it. In the real world, as in a bricks 'n mortar type business, you wouldn't even consider not 'knowing' who your partners are. Online, it's a different story because people come together from all over the globe. Currently I have a business partnership with a guy from California (I've met him), the president is from Colorado, the secretary is from Australia - you get the idea. With the use of free tools like Yahoo IM we can conduct our weekly meetings to stay on top of day to day business. Now that puts a nice dent into our long distance charges. We're also part of the Quikonnex direct-to-desktop publishing community. It's unlikely that I would have had the opportunity to meet these people in the first place, let alone start up a business with them. It's fascinating and exciting - and it's powerful. A group of people coming together who have similar goals and work ethics. Online Advertising BenefitsAdvertising on the web is constantly changing. What worked six months to a year ago likely won't be effective today. You need to be ready for the changes taking place and decide what you should implement in your own online advertising efforts. Secure and RealiableThe publishers and members of Quikonnex form a strong community within the community of Quikonnex itself. We're able to work within a safe and secure environment. We are able to entrust our words, our content, our advertising - our whole business with them. Not only is this powerful, it brings complete peace of mind. In today's internet, that is a priceless gift. Uncertainty Has No Place In BusinessI am not interested in waiting to see what Microsoft is going to come out with with respect to sender warranted email. Habeas headers could have put you out of business before you even got started. Now we're still trying to determine what does and does not qualify as spam as far as the FTC is concerned. And this is nine months after the CAN-Spam law was signed into effect. For me, there are just to many unresolved issues surrounding email. This once viable tool is no longer effective. More than half your messages don't even get to your subscribers due to spam filters, ISP filters, bouncebacks and invalid addresses. Until the protocol for email changes so that unethical types can't just hijack my email address to send their garbage from, I will not use email. I've been using Quikonnex for a year now to publish my ezine and you couldn't pay me to go back to publishing using email. I'm part of an awesome community of people who are willing to reach out. The creators of Quikonnex are always thinking ahead to what we need next or what will help us in our business efforts. They see their 'job' as providing their publishers and members with the best, the fastest, the easiest, the most secure method to keep us connected with our subscribers. They are truly the publisher's friend. And that's all I really need to know. I'm not required to understand how to set up a weblog or an rss or syndication feed. I know this technology works. Quikonnex takes care of the techie stuff and I can get back to business and publishing. That's the 'power' of building a community. Lois publishes KIT on the Home 4 Success channel. She's a real advocate for rss technology because it provides a safe and secure way for her to reach her subscribers. Try it out today. Get your own QuikView reader here.
