| KIT #121: Are You Losing Customers By Abandoning Web Pages? |
| Issue: #121 Date: March 2nd, 2004 Publisher's Corner Hi and welcome to today's issue of KIT. The last week or so we have been experiencing some wonderfully mild weather which is such a treat. After being snowed in repeatedly over the winter months, the added daylight hours and warmer temperatures make you want to start singing. Security issues and more virus/worm attacks seem to be plaguing the internet these past few weeks. I found an interesting feed that deals with scams and provides you with tests that will let you know whether your computer is vulnerable to them. You might want to add Miller Smiles Scam Alert Service to your list of channels. I'm also going to attend my first webcast. I told you about it on Friday. If you're making more than enough money with affiliate programs, you probably won't be interested. However, if you would like to know how to generate more income with affiliate programs you can find the sign up details here. All you need is an internet connection. It starts tonight at 7:00 p.m. CST. Should be interesting. You'll find that you need to drop a product or service you have been promoting from time to time. You might just make a change to the web page and update it. But what if you pull the webpage altogether? You will have links out there and if people come to your website and you've pulled that page from your website, they will receive an error message. Today's Feature Article by Tom Falco is Are You Losing Customers By Abandoning Web Pages? He offers a couple of good suggestions to help you keep from losing customers while presenting a professional image. Today's Special Feature is the next in a series written by Peg Bastin, Tax Breaks For MLM Businesses. With tax time right around the corner, you'll want to read up on this article. Have a great day and keep on smiling. Lois M. Jeary Get Your Own QuikView Here Feature Article Are You Losing Customers By Abandoning Web Pages? By Tom Falco (c) 2004 How many times have you clicked on a link at a website or search engine just to find that the page is no longer there - usually an error message comes up. The reason for this is that the webmaster has taken that page off the site and just abandoned it. In doing this, they have lost a customer probably for good. If you need to remove a page or its contents from your website don't just remove the page and leave nothing there. It's important to redirect the visitor to another page with similar information or even your homepage. But don't just let them receive an error message. Many times we change products or remove products from our site, but if a person clicks on that page, we'll tell them that we no longer carry so-and-so, and we redirect them to our replacement page or a site map. Many times we just send them to the home page. But we never ever just ignore their request and leave them stranded on a dead page. This is just as bad as "under construction" pages. If you must put an "under construction" page on your site or URL, why not add some content like address or phone number or something that helps the visitor and not makes them leave discouraged and with a bad impression of your business. This also will cause the search engines to drop you from the list. If a page keeps coming up with error messages, the spiders or editors of the search engines will drop that page. Why lose a valuable listing on the search engines due to something like that? Search engines also hate "under construction" pages and usually won't list them at all. People try everything to get visitors to their site and having a dead page or "under construction" page is just plain stupid. You got the visitor, now what? Have them leave in a huff because there is nothing there for them? Do you actually expect them to bookmark that "under construction" page in their "favorite places" so they can keep checking back for when you are good and ready to actually publish your site? I don't think so. When was the last time you bookmarked a broken link or dead page? Be smart. Don't lose visitors by being lazy or inefficient. Link them to something, even if it is just a phone number. Don't lose that client to negligence. ========About the author: Tom Falco is owner of TheDiscountPrinter.com at http://www.thediscountprinter.com also, he offers free email accounts at: http://www.xpectmore.com Review: Products or Services Can You Afford A Lawyer? In today's lawsuit crazy world, it's more important than ever to protect you and your business. Anxiety is using up today trying to figure out tomorrow. Special Feature Tax Breaks For MLM Businesses by Peg Bastin Everyone knows there are lots of tax advantages when you have a home business. Even MLM, right? Are you sure? Yes there are, as long as you meet certain requirements to qualify for these tax breaks. The requirements are not difficult to meet, but don't take these deductions without knowing the rules to qualify. IRS auditors are given a set of 8 Secret Factors to use in determining if your activity qualifies as a legitimate home-based business. They're called 'secret' because they are not disclosed openly to the taxpayer. You can qualify for thousands of dollars in legitimate tax deductions if you meet the most important of the 8 factors. These factors are not classified, so here are the four most important criteria: Congress has told the IRS to give huge refunds and deductions to taxpayers who have a home-based business, OR anyone who operated one at any time in the past 3 years. Why? It's good for the economy. If you get downsized in your job, you'll have another source of income you can work on full time. This will also help keep unemployment rates down. They're hoping maybe some of us will strike it rich, and then pay a LOT in taxes! You may even qualify for these deductions retroactively! If you had a home-business in any of the past three years, you could be eligible to file an Amended Tax Return, and possibly get a refund plus interest! Just as a traditional business can write-off utility, rent or mortgage bills as "costs of doing business," you too, can write off a portion of your utility bills also. You can claim huge tax deductions for your vehicle if you use the "IRS Two Business Location Rule" to convert non-deductible "commuting" miles into fully deductible business miles. Learn this rule and follow some simple procedures and vehicle mileage deductions can be worth up to $3,000 to $5,000 in new tax deductions. Do you give your kids an allowance? If you "employ" your kids to do part-time work in your home business their "Allowance" would become "Payroll" and therefore be tax deductible to you, and tax free to them. Do you talk business while on vacation? You could deduct up to 100% of your expenses, including play time, if you plan your trip properly in advance. A brand new tax law allows you to immediately write off up to $100,000 on the purchase of business equipment, including certain new vehicles. Be sure your accountant is aware of this new law. These deductions are 100% legal! There are many others also. If a traditional business can deduct it, your home business probably can too. So follow the rules, keep proper records, have fun, and make money! I'll be back again soon with some more tips and resources. ****Written by Peg Bastin, who is an avid internet marketer, glad to help others get started in their own online biz, with Ron Mueller, author of "It's How Much You KEEP, That Counts! "Tame Your Erratic Mouse Movements" Do you notice your cursor doing the herky jerky across the screen as you whirl in for a double click on your My Computer icon? Erratic behavior is common amongst mechanical mice, as they have a little ball inside that rotates three rollers. These rollers get covered with gunk and junk and need cleaning. And yes, a dirty roller will indeed cause jerky cursor action! Janet (not her real name) called me one day, glowing over The Newbie Club. She had lots of questions, and one of them was about this very topic. "Turn the mouse over," I instructed in my best British accent. (Yes, Joe, I've been practicing.) "There's a little round plate on the bottom that the mouse ball peeks through. It'll have directional arrows on it. Rotate the plate with your fingers in the direction of the arrows." So she did. "OH! The ball fell right out! Is that okay?" "Yes, indeed." And that's exactly the way it works. Once the ball falls out, you can see the miniature rolling pins and the little wheel. Use a pocket knife, a paper clip, or the edge of a push pin to get down in there and clean the crud off those rollers and wheel. You'll be amazed at how much stuff gathers in there in just a week's time. And if you tire of this maintenance task, just go out and buy an optical mouse. It has no rolling ball, no moving parts, and never needs this kind of delicate attention. Bottom line: If your cursor looks like it's having a seizure, check the mouse ball compartment. That's where it keeps its brain. And that'll fix your crazy cursor! ->Compliments of The Newbie ClubJoin The Newbie Club and start receiving your own Newbie Club tips.
