KIT # 106: How To Overcome The Obstacles Of Being New In Business
Issue:   #106    Date: November 11th, 2003

Publisher's Corner

Hi there and welcome to this issue of KIT. I'm very happy to see new subscribers and I hope you're having fun viewing your favorite ezines through channels. Winter seems to have come and is planning on sticking around here in Manitoba. I'm not ready yet.

Joe Bingham brings us today's Feature Article. In How To Overcome The Obstacles Of Being New In Business, he offers some down to earth suggestions to overcome the challenges an individual new to business, faces.

Thousands of people every year get caught up in the 'magic bullet' presented by many of today's 'marketing gurus' with the hope that some of that magic will rub off on them if they follow instructions. Most are left feeling that the internet isn't worth the time and trouble. It isn't the internet that is the problem. Today's Special Article is a story by Hans Klein - How My Friend Bob Went From Being A Failure To A Winner By Taking Intelligent Action!

I'd also like to take this opportunity to welcome my Uncle Rubin and his new bride, Lani, back to Canada. They were married in Wisconsin in September and just arrived back last week. Now they are having fun putting together two households to make one happy home. We're glad to have you back home - safe and sound.

Have a great day and keep on smiling.

How To Overcome The Obstacles Of Being New In Business

Getting started with your own business is difficult. There will be many people try to tell you how easy it is, but don't believe them, it's not.

By your own business, I do not mean affiliate programs, at least not for this article. Affiliate programs, while they are great ways to learn, and can make money, will never really be your own business. You can make your own business around being in other's affiliate programs, but that's different.

With your own business, however, there are some difficult things you need to overcome.

For instance, one of the best ways to convince potential customers to buy is with the power of your previous customer's testimonials. Well, testimonials are pretty hard to come by when your brand new.

As an alternative to using testimonials from your customers, instead use quotes from notable people that testify to the usefulness of your product or business. It doesn't have to be specific to you in order to be a personal recommendation.

Another problem is often people will ask about your experience, preferring to work with or join under those who have been around a while and have shown some proven results. This is also difficult to overcome.

However, you can turn the focus away from experience, if you lack it, by promoting your other qualities. Show what education you have, or talk about the support your upline offers and their experience. Relate how your experience elsewhere transfers into what you are doing now.

Then, if it comes right down to it, suggest that while you don't have the experience of others, you do have plans for the future, are pursuing more education, and have a positive belief in what you are doing. Show that you plan on being around for the long haul and that you love what you are doing. Positive energy can be contagious. Use this to replace your lack of experience.

Naturally, you must actually have that attitude and plans for the future. Whatever you do, always be honest with your intentions.

Focus as much as you can on what you do offer, and stay out of a defensive posture. If you have a great product, flaunt it. Really promote the positive features or benefits of your business and people will not tend to notice your 'newness'.

Often when you are starting out, you also end up making several changes as you go along. If not handled correctly, this may leave the impression that you don't know what you are doing and are floundering around looking for a better way.

At times, this may even be true. However, never let that show. If you need to make changes, promote the benefits of the new change. Explain that you are doing it to improve what your customers get from your site, product, ezine, service, or whatever. If you show that you are working for them, to provide more to them, they'll give you the time to perfect things.

Another crucial aspect to overcoming the challenges of being new in business is to continually seek learning and experience for yourself. People are right, experience is a good thing. While there is nothing wrong with being new, you'll want to get through it as fast as you can.

Ask for and collect feedback about your business. Take care of problems immediately and show your customers you care about serving them. Push yourself to provide the best you can for your customers and you'll soon find them accusing you of being a guru.

Remember, there are a lot of other newbies around as well. Even though you don't know as much as those you look up to, there are still others greener than you are that will ask you for advice.

The main key to starting any new business is simple. Perseverance.

Don't give up if you've got a good concept. It does take awhile to become recognized and build a solid reputation. Your business is an investment in the future. Build it carefully.

In Remembrance

Today is set aside as a tribute to our fallen heroes who fought so that we have the freedoms that we have today. Take a few minutes to remember.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, saw dawn, felt sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up your quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

- John McCrae (May 3rd, 1915)

How My Friend Bob Went From Being A Failure To A Winner By Taking Intelligent Action!
By Hans Klein

Let me tell you story about a friend of mine who used to be a complete failure. His name was Bob. My friend Bob was the type of guy who always was looking for instant riches, but never could seem to find them.

He jumped from one business opportunity to the next one and each time the people who sold Bob the business opportunity claimed they were going to make my friend Bob a millionaire, quickly and easily with little effort on his part.

I often visited my friend Bob, and every time Bob always would talk about his latest and greatest venture. Each time, I would tell Bob how he could use the internet to promote his venture, and each time he would get excited and say, "That sounds great".

But, whenever it was time for Bob to take action, he was always busy with his full-time job, his favorite TV program was on, or he had some other task to accomplish.

This went on for several years, and I lost touch with Bob. But, recently, when I ran into Bob again at the local grocery store, I asked him what he was up to, and this is what he said:

"I am doing the best I've ever done in my entire life. I quit my crappy job; I have more time to spend with my family, and I just bought a new car".

I said, "That's great. What happened?"

"Well, I finally got tired of having no money and working at my dead-end job. So, I went into business for myself and quit my job."

I asked Bob, "Weren't you scared?"

Bob said, "No, because I finally did something I should have done a long time ago. I first identified what I wanted and then I worked my butt off to get it!"

Later, I found out that it took my friend a good 8 months of hard work to discover what he wanted to sell, and he used the power of the internet to create a profitable business.

Like my friend Bob, you, too, have the power to achieve success using the internet if you only follow the same process.

I like to call what Bob did "intelligent action" because he was intelligent by first identifying what he wanted and then taking action to reach his goal.

Before he took intelligent action, Bob was practicing insanity. He kept on pursuing the same easy riches, each time expecting a different result.

Are you practicing insanity? If so, here are the five steps of intelligent action:

1. Create a picture of what you want. To do this, you must determine what you are passionate about or care about most.

2. Create time to do it. Give up your favorite TV show or little chores until you get it done.

3. Do your research into how to accomplish your goal. This will save you time and effort if you know what you are doing.

4. Get help from those who have knowledge of how to accomplish your goal whenever you are stuck.

5. Take the risk to succeed. The internet is just like any business. You can make or lose money, but you are never going to get anywhere unless you take a risk to get what you want.

In short, if you act with a clear sense of purpose and direction because you know what your really want, then fear and doubt will be replaced with faith that you will get what you really want.

Before you leave here are some words that hold true today just as they did over 50 years ago.

"A man is the sum of his actions, of what he has done, of what he can do, Nothing else." --Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948)
